Who We Are
Our Mission:
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Since 1905, the Cincinnati Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has provided services to our community. In 2005, the Chapter celebrated 100 years of service. Volunteers remain the heart and soul of the Red Cross. In fact, 98 percent of the Red Cross workforce is volunteer-based. Today the Chapter has 40 volunteers per staff member. Together they serve over 200,000 people annually in 18 counties surrounding Cincinnati.

What We Do:
The Cincinnati Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has volunteers who serve locally and nationally. We provide immediate assistance to victims of disasters of various magnitudes from major disasters to single family fires. Through our “Together We Prepare” campaign, we are educating individuals on prevention and preparedness. We provide training for children and adults in CPR and First Aid, lifeguarding, HIV/AIDS education and babysitting. We assist military families and send emergency messages to military service members. We offer training in International Humanitarian Law and support a program to innoculate African children against Measles. We provide teens with leadership training and volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are involved with all of these programs and services.

Our Volunteer Philosophy:
- The American Red Cross is and ought to be an organization governed, supported, and primarily staffed by volunteers.
- Paid Staff are enablers of, and not substitutes for volunteers.
- Principal Management roles are filled by teams of volunteers and paid managers working together and sharing responsibilities.
How You Can Help
The Cincinnati Area Chapter is looking for people willing to give a piece of themselves to help a great cause. We will work with you to provide rewarding experiences, opportunities to utilize your talents, or provide training to help you serve the community to the best of your abilities. We have volunteer opportunities for people with skills ranging from basic project assistance to the professional level.
