Partnering with Labor for Disaster


 The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, (AFL-CIO), and the American Red Cross have had a cooperative working relationship dating back to the 1920's when Samuel Gompers, President of the American Federation of Labor, (AF of L), was the first labor representative appointed to the Board of Governors, Our current representative is William "Bill" Lucy, Secretary-Treasurer, American Federation of State, County and Municipat Employees,(AFSCME).

The Office of Labor Participation (OLP) develops, strengthens and expands the participation in and support of Red Cross services and activities by organized labor through capacity building and relationship connections/networking at local and national levels. The OLP staff coordinates and supports labor's volunteer participation in:

  1. Disaster Relief
  2. Health and safety training
  3. Military Deployments
  4. Speaking Engagements
  5. Donations of inkind goods, services and cash donations working directly with The Cincinnati Central Labor Council, The AFL-CIO Community Services Network of 300 liaisons to which we belong, our AFL-CIO Community Services Liaisons to the American Red Cross in the field, and with local unions and labor leadership across the state.
