School/Business Preparedness

Business Emergency Planning Association (BEPA)-- The majority of small- to medium-sized businesses fail following a major disaster. Tragic, but true….and most of all, unnecessary. BEPA is a consortium of businesses, organizations and business continuity and disaster planning specialists dedicated to ensuring that your company will continue operations at maximum possible efficiency following a disaster event.

School Safety Partners -- Put American Red Cross Health and Safety training in your school! The Cincinnati Area Chapter is committed to helping create safe school environments. That is why we are now offering free training for teachers, parents and community volunteers who want to teach Red Cross courses to the students, faculty and staff of their schools. What’s more - all participant materials are provided at no cost for courses taught by a Red Cross certified instructor from your school community to other members of the school community.

Small Business Administration--Getting back to business after a disaster depends on preparedness planning done today. Small business owners invest a tremendous amount of time, money and resources to make their ventures successful, and yet, while the importance of emergency planning may seem self-evident, it may get put on the back-burner in the face of more immediate concerns. For small business owners, being prepared can mean staying in business following a disaster. An estimated 25 percent of businesses do not reopen following a major disaster, according to the Institute for Business and Home Safety.

FEMA Emergency Management Guide for Business & Industry-- This guide provides step-by-step advice on how to create and maintain a comprehensive emergency management program. It can be used by manufacturers, corporate offices, retailers, utilities or any organization where a sizable number of people work or gather. Whether you operate from a high-rise building or an industrial complex; whether you own, rent or lease your property; whether you are a large or small company; the concepts in this guide will apply.

Ready.gov Business Preparedness--When you also consider that the number of declared major disasters nearly doubled in the 1990's compared to the previous decade, preparedness becomes an even more critical issue. Though each situation is unique, any organization can be better prepared if it plans carefully, puts emergency procedures in place, and practices for emergencies of all kinds.
